FEATURES OF 3D TV

Viewing 3D movies, or three-dimensional movies, have become the in-thing nowadays. There have been 3D movies in the past, but nowhere near as prolific as in today’s film world; 3D movies come out by the dozen every year or so.

The 3D that we see in movies and the 3D that we experience in video games and other computer-generated media are quite different from each other. The latter only presents a simulated “feeling” of the 3D involving advanced software rendering techniques. The former, also called stereoscopic 3D, is more of the real thing; it involves real depth by using video capturing techniques that mimic the operation of our eyes.

Several years ago, only some of the highly privileged were fortunate to bring 3D TV technology into their home theatre systems. Now, with the cost of the technology going down, people are clamoring for 3D TV systems into their own homes.

There are three options for 3D TV intended for home theatres: projection-based 3D large screens, plasma TV, and auto stereoscopic 3D displays. All three of these systems have advantages and disadvantages.

2010 has brought us a lot more than just a backlit LCD TV. This year the 3D television was released and the reviews are phenomenal. This television is capable of 3D technology that until now has only been seen in theaters. The picture quality is awesome, in fact most models provide a slim profile with an amazing view. The picture quality is frequently provided by light emitting diodes. This technology is combined with a backlighting system that only gives you the best pictures available. But, within the next few years this technology may be topped as well, with the possibility of OLED TV.

3d television technology has reached a level that seems to be thriving within the consumers of America. When you’re looking for your very own 3D featured television, be sure to look at the refresh rate. The higher the refresh rate is, the better the 3D will be. The average refresh rate for 3D is 240 HZ. Finding anything lower than that just won’t give you the experience any 3D lover deserves. With some newer 3D models, glasses aren’t needed to see the in 3D!

The 3D television Samsung models are some of the best options available to consumers. This brand provides top of the line 3D viewing experience. The backlight provided with this brand is top notch and is ready to please any tech savvy individual. Experiencing TV in 3D is an experience that every TV user should experience. Samsung isn’t your only choice, 3D television sets are available in many brands. The top brands go to Samsung and Panasonic 3D television sets. These 3D ready televisions seem to be hitting consumers like a storm, maybe it’s time everybody had a chance to check all of the available models out.

Finding a 3D LCD television for yourself shouldn’t be too hard of a task. This can easily be done at your favorite electronic store or even on the web! Searching by prices, brands, models and reviews will be the smartest choice you could make in this kind of purchase. Finding a 3D television for yourself only takes a little time and consideration. Soon enough you’ll have the 3D TV that you’ve always dreamed of owning. Deciding on your own personal model is truly half of the fun when it comes to the purchase of a 3D TV. There are now so many models and brands that even the most demanding consumer can find an option that is right for them.

EXPLAINATION OF 3D TV

The user interface is similar to the trendy television line-ups.  To begin with, the external source configuration is made breezy. The frequency detection is fast and the settings can be fine tuned quickly. Both types of tuning viz ATV manual tuning and DTV manual tuning are possible. The DTV tuning is bit different with options such as the ‘Move’. A group of channels can be moved to the desired location using the afore-said option. Once listed, the channels are sorted and saved as per the preference. It is somewhat less complicated and gets the viewer’s channel listing very neatly. By setting the television time correctly, it can synchronous with the programme guide mode perfectly. The programme guide is at a very raw stage and lack of details such as the time limit for the tuning is not mentioned. Many competitors provide program details available within the time span seven days, but Toshiba Regza does not perform that function effectively. Advanced options such as notifying the user regarding a particular programme also seems like a cripple in a far advanced model as this one.

The 3D content can be viewed in three formats, top to bottom, side by side and frame packing. There are several settings and 3D timer settings notify the user when the 3D viewing has crossed the viewing time. However, Toshiba has strewn options such as 3D lock, 3D pin code and 3D timer lock within the 3D settings. The user would rarely get in to the Pin or the timer options. On the other hand, had it been studded with picture control or the noise reduction setting, it would have been beneficial. At the same time, it do contain good software keyboard and would be completely advantageous when either PC or internet is connected.

Features

Display

The display is based on the LED technology. It is coupled with state of art backlighting system that gives good colour vibrancy and contrast. Though the dimension is slim, the pixels are not cramped in the circuit, thus providing rich clarity. Unlike the plasma, the energy consumption is minimal. The response times are faster. The picture processing is nearly four times rapid when compared against the older rates which are 50 hertz. Overall, a great picture transition occur thereby producing smooth and fine details.

Auto view and ambient Light sensor

The auto view readily adjusts the picture setting by analysing the surrounding lighting and the content quality. The light sensor regularly controls the back light. The black level is good and the dark content is displayed with good depth and some areas it has blue tint to it. This is something inherent of the LCD displays. It is again so, because there are no dead pixels in the screen.

iPTV

iPTV feature enables the user to connect the television to a wireless or wired network. It provides two contents viz YouTube and BBC iPlayer. The selection list is good and we trust that Toshiba can include many more such items in the category to make the feature completely beneficial.

Interactive Features

There are several interactive features in the Toshiba Regza 40WL768 such as the digital text, Electronic Programme Guide, built in Freeview windows 7 certified, and many more. The text services are notable and are provided with three options viz auto, fastext and list. The options are automatically chosen depending on the language setting. Furthermore the sub pages are actively updated. Availability of Regza link connects the devices compatible with it and allows the user to have just one remote control operation.

Performance

Colour

The image quality is good in any mode, especially the Hollywood mode with the Digital noise reduction activated, the outer edges are cropped and some minute details are smoothed off. Though the red is splashed in excess it does not seem to annoy the viewing. Inherit to the LCD displays is the issue of blue and black tinting which is not mended in this one too.  The white balance adjustment gives a balanced tuning of RGB thereby yielding quality images. The Gamma setting for the television is around 2.5, which is adequate for low lighting environment. The colour management system controls the hue and saturation. The one are where Toshiba should seriously work on is the ‘brightness control’. It stretches the fine tuning and creates unwanted colour output. Take for an example, while the hue is being adjusted the saturation also gets fine tuned, which is not the user would want. The interaction between the saturation, hue and luminescence has a profound effect on picture quality. On the other hand, the base colour adjustment is consoling as it can control the green adjustment but the red remains adamant. To paraphrase, the picture quality is good, but Toshiba has not coordinated the colour management system effectively.

3D

The 3D displayed controlled colour outputs and maintained liner greyscale features. In the 3D there is a visible lack in the tint of red, since it is consistent throughout all levels, it stays accommodative. The notable shortcoming in the 3D mode is the lack of separate picture settings for the 3D and 2D. It had been designed the same by Panasonic’s earlier 3D televisions, the design flaw that has been corrected later. Owing to this, the user needs to switch many a times to and froth to adjust the 3D colour settings. However, unlike Panasonic, Toshiba Regza has good and even excellent control over redundant colour tints. Overall the picture performance is good in 3D mode.

Standard Definition

The standard definition performance is mediocre, but the scaling job to high definition is considerable only with the exception of high- contrast conversion. Jaggedness is patched up well from video camera content. However, the film mode detection exhibits slight jaggedness for the European SD. Image noise is seen at some particular compressed channels.

High Definition

The high definition quality compensates the defects in the standard definition, the greyscale and gamma mode accelerates the picture sharpness. However, depending on the type of external sources, such as the different Blu-ray discs, very minute blurring effect is noted. This can certainly be ignored, only if the user is not very keen on getting perfect resolution. On the other hand, it does not create any judder effect or grains. All in all, it is only a few steps ahead to be classified as exceptional, in other words the HD is good.

Sound

As the set is based on SoundNavi technology, it gives a profound sound projection. Depending on the mounting system, the SoundNavi amplifies the speakers in a very sensible manner. Besides the Dolby Volume controls the volume fluctuations and eases out the annoying factor that pop ups while switching channels with different volume level. A strong volume consistency is maintained at all levels.

Verdict

The Toshiba brand does not have a great market presence in the European countries. This could be because of biased opinions about the performance. Nevertheless, keeping aside some controllable shortcomings, Toshiba Regza 40WL768 can sweep thorough the market successfully. All in all, it has some great features packed decently in a very chic and highly aesthetic design.
